BINATBATAN FESTIFAL

Binatbatan Festival of Arts is held every year during the first week of May. The Binatbatan Arts Festival honors Vigan's well-known Abel-Iloko workmanship. This celebration honors the old weaving craft, which predates the advent of the Spaniards. At the Binatbatan festival, participants dress up in "abel" (woven cloth) costumes and sway to their dance.

Apart from all of the exciting and entertaining events held during the Binatbatan Festival, Vigan City also celebrates "Tres de Mayo" in honor of Apo Lakay of the Simbaan a Bassit, who saved Vigan from a devastating disease in 1882.

The Binatbatan Festival not only honors Vigan City's diverse arts and culture, but it also honors Vigan's miraculous and blessed past, because Vigan would never be the same without Apo Lakay's miracle, and Vigan would have been gravely harmed without it.
